TV Review: Blue Mountain State

Here at Rip City Soccer, we love a good TV series. We’ve been through a lot in the past year and a half. We’ve gone through all of the seasons of Steve Carell’s The Office which, inadvertently, caused an increase in the amount of “that’s what she said” jokes. Also, Thug Winslow has introduced the crew to both It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and How I Met Your Mother (which I’m currently completely enthralled with), two hilarious sit-coms.

Our TV viewing was revolutionized however by the edition of Netflix this year. We’ve torn through all the available seasons of HBO’s popular comedy Weeds, watched Michael Scofield break out of multiple prisons in Prison Break and laughed at the over-the-top story of Archer. However, our favorite TV series out of all of these has to be the ridiculous and hilarious story of the D1 college football team from Blue Mountain State.

As you can probably tell from the video, Blue Mountain State is a fictional college, but that doesn't mean we don't wish it were real. BMS is the college where all the college stereotypes are real and they all mingle together into a ridiculous mixture of comedy. Actually, there is a LOT of mingling going on in this series.

The show revolves around the football team and their college experience. The main character is Alex Morane. Alex is the backup quarterback, and he couldn't be happier. Though he's got the skills to start, he'd rather be sitting the bench. Why? Because he gets all the benefits of being on the football team (great parties, hot girls, and doesn't need to go to class), but he doesn't need to practice either.

Other characters that you follow are Alex's roommate, best friend, and BMS mascot, Sammy. Also you have team captain Thad Castle who is probably the funniest person in the whole show. All the quotable lines come from this guy. Mixed in with these other guys are the star quarterback Radon, Thad's henchman Larry, Sammy's dirty little sister and rocking cheerleader Mary Jo, and finally the crazy head coach of the football team, Coach Marty Daniels.

The show is on its second season and it airs on Spike TV on Wednesday nights. However, if you have a Netflix account, you can watch the entire first season on demand and you can watch every episode of the second season the day after it airs.

So what are you waiting for? Go laugh your ass off at this over the top comedy series; you won’t regret it. Go Goats!
