Rip City Crystal Ball: MLS in 2020. Part 2

Promotion/relegation is a topic that many hardcore soccer fans are passionate about.  Many eurosnobs won't even consider MLS a legitimate league until they implement a P/R system.  So, in 2020 will MLS have a promotion relegation system?
No.  At least not in the time frame that my vision is limited to.  The NASL just recently was accepted as the division 2 league and most of those teams are so financially insecure that folding is always an option.  Also, owners in MLS are now forking out 40 million dollars just to join the league.  Once they enter the league they will probably continue to lose money unless they can be one of the few that manages to turn a profit.  It does look like more and more teams will begin to turn a profit as attendance rises and jersey sponsor deals are made but the fact is that owners aren't going to be willing to agree on something that could send them down to a league where they would be hemorrhaging even more money.  Perhaps if soccer continues to grow at the pace it is now promotion/relegation could be possible, but division 2 teams are going to have to get their own stadiums, fanbases, and even tv contracts before that happens. Also, even though the number of new owners in MLS has grown significantly there still needs to be more owners with deep pockets in MLS, NASL, and USL-pro.  I just don't see this happening before 2020, if ever.  The American sports scene is dominated by parity.  Fans want to know that if they have the right coaches and system intact that their team can win the championship any year, which is an idea that shouldn't be scorned at.  While the P/R system is exciting and we at Rip City are heavily in favor of a P/R system it is nice to know that after a terrible season your favorite team can have a productive offseason and be ready to bounce back the next year.

WAIT! It's becoming clear to me now....I see... yes!.... Promotion/Relegation will begin in the United States in 2024
