Turkey Day Playlist

So it's almost Thanksgiving time, which for a lot of us, means miserable travelling.  But travelling doesn't have to be all that bad.  I find that a good mix is crucial for traveling so I thought I'd try something new at Rip City Soccer and make a playlist for people to make and listen on their way home, or wherever, for Thanksgiving.  I used to make mix CDs for my ex-girlfriend and friends all the time, and I'm told I have a knack for it (although, I don't know how much skill or insight is needed for this sort of thing).  So here's 25 songs I've compiled that I think you guys should listen to on your travels.

First, I'd like to explain the playlist.  This group of songs I hope evokes the mood of going home.  The excitement of leaving work/school.  The monotony, boredom, insomnia, stress that goes along with road trips.  The bonding, introspection, and spontaneity that goes along with road trips.  But especially, nostalgia.  Just being in your old room, with your family, with your pets, or just that feeling of being back home, for me, is what Thanksgiving is about.  Enjoy and have a happy Thanksgiving.  There's no download links so either just listen to the videos on your computer or download the songs and compile the playlist yourself if you want.

Nov. 1.) "Now We Can See," The Thermals from Now We Can See.  This song just starts a trip off right.  It's loud, catchy, and fun.

Nov. 2.) "Keep The Car Running," The Arcade Fire from Neon Bible.  Win Butler kinda sounds like the Boss in this song.  great song for the road.

Nov. 3.) "Like A Rolling Stone," Bob Dylan from Highway 61 Revisited.  Three songs in, this classic sets the tone of the trip as you begin to think about shit.

Nov. 4.) "I'm A Lady," Santigold from Santogold.  This song is awesome for both sexes.  Santigold is sick, I "got my mind made up"

Nov. 5.) "The Prayer," Kid Cudi from A Kid Named Cudi mixtape.  No mix is complete without a little hip-hop, and I feel that you can mix genres freely as long as the tone of songs are relevant.  Cudi samples Band of Horses in this song that is great for thinking on a long drive.

Nov. 7.) "Time To Move On," Tom Petty from Wildflowers.  sans the Heartbreakers, Petty still knows how to write powerful songs.

Nov. 8.) "Lake Michigan," Rogue Wave from Asleep At Heaven's Gate.  This song is relevant to me because I'm going to Chicago for Thanksgiving, but Rogue Wave are a really underrated band.

Nov. 10.) "Kissing Families," Silversun Pickups from Pikal-EP.  I love the emotion that this guy puts into his unique sings

Nov. 11.) "Life's A Dream," Built To Spill from There Is No Enemy.  "Miles from dawn but it feels so dark 'til  then..."

Nov. 12.) "See The Enemy," Andrew Bird from Anonanimal / See The Enemy - Single.  Might be the most talented musician right now.

Nov. 15.) "Arizona," Kings of Leon from Because Of The Times.  KOL with the same stadium sound but without the stadium ego.

Nov. 16.) "Blood Red Sentimental Blues," Cotton Jones from Paranoid Cocoon.  I don't know much about this guy but this is such a moving song.  A little slow, but good for a long drive.

Nov. 17.) "Coast Of Carolina," Telekinesis from Telekinesis!.  "Come down, come quickly, look at the lights in the big city."

Nov. 19.) "Conductor," We Were Promised Jetpacks from These Four Walls.  This band is not well known but I love the harsh Scottish accent

Nov.  20.) "Beautiful World," Colin Hay from Going Somewhere.  If you don't know Colin Hay, look him up. now.

Nov. 21.) "Maps," Yeah Yeah Yeahs from Fever To Tell.  Well-known song but relevant still.  Karen-O is an incredible performer.

Nov. 22.) "In The Garage," Weezer from the blue album.  What happened to these guys? Oh yeah, they suck now and won't shut up.

Nov.  23.) "Wasted & Ready," Ben Kweller from Sha Sha.  A friend of mine turned me on to the ageless Kweller.  This song just makes me think back to middle/high school.

Nov. 24.) "New Slang," The Shins from Oh, Inverted World.  The ultimate song for returning to home and its memories. see Garden State.

Nov. 25!) "Sleeping In," The Postal Service from Give Up.  The best part of Thanksgiving: the post-turkey nap.
