Four Lokos: Down, But Not Out

Recent press has shown that the popular college alcoholic/energy drink Four Loko was banned from the state of New York yesterday. This follows previous Four Loko bans in the states of Washington, Michigan, Utah, and Oklahoma.

Four Loko bans have been seen due to the "dangerous mixture of an energy drink and a malt liquor". Some who are for the ban are even calling the drink "liquid cocaine".

Here at Rip City Soccer, we're outraged with Four Loko bans. For a little over two dollars, one of these tall boys will get you slizzard and feeling wide awake for the rest of the night. The taste is a little questionable, sure, but it's definitely on par, if not better, than the cheap beer and vodka that most of us college kids drink anyways.

Now I'm not saying you should fill your bag with Four Lokos and hit the party scene thinking you'll be consuming all the different flavors in one night. That'll just end up with you making the headline in the Star Tribune the next morning and a Four Loko ban in Minnesota a week later. Stick with one (two max) Four Loko/s for the entire night. Not only do these cans contain enough alcohol to match some six packs, but they also contain an absurd amount of energy boosting supplements.

The "Four" in Four Loko is in reference to the four energy ingredients: caffeine, taurine, guarana, and wormwood (FYI, wormwood is an active ingredient in absinthe). These ingredients hide the strong alcohol content in the drink well; blackouts are not an uncommon occurrence after drinking one of these beauts.

Urban Dictionary has this to say about Four Loko: "If you consume Four Lokos you can expect to encounter the same results typically associated with snorting a small mountain of cocaine". Fun stuff.

In the end, it's not Four Loko's fault that it's being banned around the country. It's the stupid jackoffs that aren't mature enough to hold their liquor and drink responsibly. Have fun, but be smart. Don't be that guy that gets Four Loko banned in Minnesota. You'll have a lot of angry college students to answer to...

  1. I am also outraged with the negative media views on Four Lokos. If this ban goes nationwide then the today's college kids and America's future will have to go back to getting sloppy drunk off of Steel Reserve 211's and we all know that a young mind cannot be stimulated with that donkey piss.
